Half Moon Bay Marina Boatshed

Situated on the edge of Tamaki River, the newly completed Boat Shed at Half Moon Bay Marina provides a large, weather-proof, and modern home for boat repair and
maintenance services. 145m long, 18m deep and 12m high, the Boat Shed building is made up of prefabricated steel structure, pre-cast concrete panel walls and a Kingspan panel roof. The materiality of the project has been designed to endure the industrial activities within the building, as well as the harsh marine environment outside. The extensive use of off-site prefabrication has enabled faster and easier construction on-site to minimise disruptions to a fully functional marine boat yard.

Considering its significant location at the waterfront, our design approach aimed to achieve a high-quality architecture that will bring positive changes to its urban context.
To reduce the visual dominance, the building was divided into three smaller blocks horizontally. A “tripartite” approach was applied to the building façade to add visual
interest and human scale. The main façade has a 3m high base created by dark concrete panels with exposed aggregate and deep reveals. The main body of the building is made up of lightweight concrete panels. White coloured aluminum Panels have been used to frame the building on top, adding shadowing and depth to the façade.

Simple but bold Pacifica patterns were imprinted on the main body of the building to achieve human scale and visual interests. The colour palette is predominately white and light grey, which lightens the appearance of the building and blends well into its marine surroundings. The natural colours of the concrete panels are exposed but sealed and stained with Ecotone for durability.

Jervois and Lawrence (J&L) Apartments

Jervois and Lawrence (J&L) Apartments is a six-storey high-end apartment building located on the corner of Jervois Road and Lawrence St in central Herne Bay Auckland.
The developer and client for the project was Synergy Development Group based in Auckland. Their core business is land subdivisions in the wider Auckland region. This project was their first commercial project.

The apartment block was built on a 1518m2 corner section with all four sides of the building extending right up to the land boundaries. It has one basement level consisting of carparking and utility rooms. An internal ramp provides vehicle access to ground floor which has additional car parking. There are also four apartments on the northern side of the building and three shopfronts towards the south. This is separated by the main entrance foyer which is clad with natural honed travertine stone walls and floor tiles. There are 28 apartments in total including two penthouse apartments on level 5. All 28 apartments have their own unique floor layout - no two are the same.

In terms of cost - this building has the highest per metre rate compared with any other apartment building CMP has completed to-date. This is evident in in the luxurious and exclusive products used to complete this designer building.

Cordis Hotel: 83 Symonds Street, Grafton, Auckland 1010

The Pinnacle Tower has transformed New Zealand’s largest hotel, Cordis Hotel, located in Auckland’s CBD. Its 16 storeys comprising of 244 new rooms and suites, public areas as well as a state-of-the-art restaurant and bar.

LIVEFIRM was responsible for the timber framing and the luxurious internal fit-out. The rooms feature beautiful tiling, villa board lining, and detailed finishing trims, ensuring the tower blends seamlessly with the existing five-star hotel building. Beneath the luxury finish, the rooms, stairs, and service ducts are structured using fire-rated framing and lining in addition to Hilti fire rating spray.

The Saltburn, 23 Frater Ave & 16 Saltburn Rd

The Saltburn project is a Large size residential development with 9 terrace houses all built to the highest standard. 51 Aranui Road, Mt Wellington

51 Aranui project includes development of a residential three storey building situated in Mt Wellington. The proposed building will consist of eight side by side town houses. Four double bedrooms each lot. Comprising eight three storey units, these townhouses were specified with traditional concrete slab at the ground and timber floors for the upper two levels. The external wall enclosure combines corrugated iron roofing and wall cladding, brick veneer, and fibre cement cladding. The inter-tenancy wall between the units is fire rated to achieve a 30/30/30 FRR from the ground up to the underside of the roof cladding. The units/firewalls are designed to timber framed building standard NZS3604 clause B1/AS1 of the NZBC.

The proposed building provides a level of articulation; a mix of glazed, roof and wall form; variation in material; colour and design which breaks up the form into eight identifiable residential units within the building block, of three easily identifiable Levels to assist in breaking up the bulk of bult form. An internal layout of the unites are designed so that the principle living rooms are provided on the first floor. AULFON is working closely with local community & council, client, designer & engineers to achieve on time & within cost targets. They are able to communicate with all the stakeholders and fully understand the demand side of the stakeholder’s interest.

Owairoa Primary School

Owairoa Primary School building is a modern and functional 18 classroom block that comprises modern learning spaces together with breakout rooms, and technical learning areas. It has been developed in response to the growing need for learning facilities that meet the changing needs of children in a modern collaborative environment.

With a GFA of 3050 M2 and a site area of 3400 M2, the building was designed to effectively utilize all the minimal space available without compromising the outdoor areas that are essential to a modern learning environment. The structure is a steel frame, clad with colour steel roofing and Stria weatherboards. The cladding elements were designed with sustainability in mind to provide an exterior solution that is both eye-catching and durable to withstand harsh conditions. There includes a large Astroturf and a playground-style slide which goes from the top floor to the ground, all of which creates a fun and entertaining environment for the children throughout their time at the school.

New Being Welfare

75%-90% Kiwis spend their life time at home, this was surveyed before Covid. 10%+ of Auckland population are Chinese. Most of the Chinese migrants are not familiar with the timber homes they are living. 

New Being Welfare is a public welfare action founded and funded by Dylan Huang & family this year, with Dylan’s 15 years architectural practising in NZ, and after armed himself as Home Performance Advisor, Passive House Consultant, Homefit Assessor. This winter, Dylan was busy with voluntary assessing dozens of poor performance homes on site and online, assisting non-profit organization to translate home performance promotion script, taking care of the community who really need help.

NZ Chinese Building Industry Association

During the first lock down back to Apr 2020, Frank and NZCBIA Board members had closely monitored the unfold of the pandemic, and proactively assessed the impact to the industry.

We followed the three response phases of “maintain, restart, transform”, organised many online forums for the members and the industry, tried to identify the key challenges and opportunities. At the same time, we realised that the importance of Health & Safety issues once the construction site re-open. So we team up to develop this  “COVID-19 Site Specific Induction (CSSI) for Residential & Commercial Construction Sites” based on the government and industry standards, and most importantly, we deliver the Chinese version too.

2021 August, Auckland entered the another lock down, we decided to revise the CSSI to reflect the changes and prepare for the re-open of construction projects.
